ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION Madonna was presented on Friday (December 9) with Billboard magazine's Woman of the Year award, accepting the honour with a fiery speech that mixed humor with anger, touching on the violence and chauvinism she has experienced in the industry where she has been a household name since the early 1980s. The seven-time Grammy Award winner said, "I stand before you as a doormat. Oh, I mean a female entertainer" before opening up about misogyny and sexism she has experienced in her 34-year career. The annual Billboard Women in Music awards recognise women who have made significant contributions to the music business and who have inspired other women. The 11th annual Women In Music event was taped on December 9 in New York and had its premiere on December 12 on Lifetime.
