Ousted South Korean President Park Geun-hye is charged with bribery alonside the chairman of Lotte group. David Doyle reports.

South Korea prosecutors charge former President Park Geun-hye with bribery. Ms Park was indicted alongside Shin Dong-bin, the chairman of one of South Korea's biggest companies Lotte group Monday It's the latest twist in a corruption scandal that has rocked the country for months. Prosecutors accuse Park of colluding with her friend Choi Soon-sil to receive seven billion won, or $6.16m, from Lotte in return for favours. She was also charged with abuse of power and coercion for allegedly pressuring big businesses to contribute funds to non-profit foundations, prosecutors said. Lotte is the second conglomerate to become mired in the political scandal after Jay Y Lee, chief of Samsung Group, was arrested on suspicion of bribing Park and Choi. Park is charged with taking 29.8bn won from Lee in exchange for supporting his succession, according to the prosecutors statement. Lee Park and Choi held at detention centres. Lotte denies the allegations and said the situation will be resolved in court. Park, Lee and Choi all deny any wrongdoing.
