A total of 12 teams comprised of 18 to 24-year-old sailors are taking part in the event, with the teams split into two groups of six. In the opening series of three races in Group B, "Land Rover BAR Academy" won the first and third races, while "NZ Sailing Team" of New Zealand won the second. "Land Rover BAR Academy" won the opening race in emphatic style. After narrowly edging out Austria's "Candidate Sailing Team" away from the start line, the British team, skippered by Rob Bunce, led from start to finish, sailing clear of all of their rivals from the first upwind mark and maintaining a healthy lead throughout the race to claim an impressive maiden victory. After finishing fifth in the opening race, "NZL Sailing Team" skipper Logan Dunning led from the start of the second race, winning from "Spanish Impulse by Iberostar" of Spain, who took their second consecutive second-place finish, with the British team back in third. The final race of the first day was dominated initially by a fight at the head of the pack between "Land Rover BAR Academy" and "Team BDA" of Bermuda. The British team held off the challenge to win from the Bermudians with "NZL Sailing Team" third. After the three races, "Land Rover BAR Academy" headed the standings with 27 points, followed by "Spanish Impulse by Iberostar" second with 25 and "Team BDA" third with 24.
